CMS Releases Ratings for Long Term Care Facilities Under the New Metrics

On Friday, the Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services released the new star ratings for nursing homes.  According to CMS, the new ratings include changes that

  • Incorporate quality measures for use of antipsychotic medications
  • Increase the number of points necessary to reach a level of 2 or more stars
  • Made changes to the way staffing is rated

Because the new measures are different from previous ratings, many nursing homes are expected to drop one or more star ratings.  The website with information about the changes and the new ratings is available at: http://www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare .
